The MATTES Sheepskin Saddle is based on a completely new idea which combines flexibility and superior pressure distribution with freedom for the dorsal as well as for the withers.

The MATTES Sheepskin Saddle provides a lot of space above dorsal and withers due to its tunnel structure which also helps to prevent any stripe-typed or punctual pressure lines. The stirrups can also take a one-sided load without making the saddle slip to one side.

Furthermore, the fastenings for the stirrup leathers are designed for putting the rider’s leg in a correct and comfortable position and cannot be felt neither by the rider nor the horse.

The MATTES Sheepskin Saddle adapts itself quite extensively to the shape of the horse’s back – lengthwise (red arrows) as well as transverse (white arrows). Due to its flexible design, the panels adjust themselves to the angles on both sides of the withers and the back. Despite this flexibility the saddle has excellent stability.

Because of its novel construction, the saddle is extremely comfortable for horse and rider while the rider sits correctly and safe. The very stable
construction allows a very high degree of interaction between rider and horse as the rider is ideally positioned.

Mattes Bespoke Sheepskin Saddle

The Mattes Bespoke Sheepskin Saddle is delivered fully assembled.
The Saddle is made up of three individual parts:

The Sheepskin Seat is based on herder saddles, like e.g. the Vaquero Saddle, which are designed for stressfree and non tiring long rides.
The Base Support is only usable in combination with the SaddlePad.
The Saddle Pad includes the MATTES CORRECTION® system as main functional part and is available in all colour combinations (regarding quilt, sheepskin, binding and cords) as well as in most of our MATTES Saddle Pad cuts.All parts are connected by using high quality velcro to assure easy and correct build-up.
For easy assembling, coloured tags are placed on the centre line of each part of the MATTES Sheepskin Saddle – red in front and yellow
in the back.
Important: The coloured tags have to be aligned exactly when assembling the saddle

The saddle comes in 4 seat sizes. These are based on German trouser sizing.

Full Sized – Small = 34/36/38; Medium = 38/40/42; Large = 42/44/46; Extra Large = 46/48/50
Cob Sized – Small = 34/36/38; Medium = 38/40/42; Large = 42/44/46

The tunnels are available in different sizes (based on wither width): 16cm, 18cm, 20cm, 22cm, 24cm, 26cm and 28cm. (See Photos for measuring). Further adjustment can be made by inserting additional full- or half-sized POLY-FLEX inserts.
